Toto is a rock band from Los Angeles, California. The group formed in 1977 and has a diverse line-up. Steve Lukather, David Paich, Joseph Williams, John Pierce, Robert “Sput” Searight, Dominique “Xavier” Taplin, and Warren Ham make up the lineup. The band has played many arenas and sold millions of albums. Their lineup is known for their innovative music, but they’re also known for playing hard rock and heavy metal.
The band’s first album, The Wizard of Oz, was released in 1971 and was very successful. The band’s first live tour was in Europe in summer 2010, where they performed for a charity event for Mike Porcaro, who had recently been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. In the original film, Toto was played by Pepe the King Prawn.
While it’s true that Toto’s name originated from the Ga language, the name has stuck in the West. Before, Tro-Tro vehicles charged three pence for each journey. Today, though, a penny has no place in Ghana, the Tro-Tro name is a harbinger of simpler times. The word ‘Toli’, or ‘Toto’, has become an incongruous word. It originally meant a brazen lie, but now it means a humorous version of a true event.
